Introduction:

The Diploma in Guidance and Counseling is a two-year programme, whose main objective is to introduce students to the main concepts, principles and philosophy of guidance and counseling. It focuses on the application of guidance and counseling principles and practices to address real-life issues, problems and challenges.

 2. Rationale:

The demand for guidance and counseling is high and continues to rise in part as result of the challenges facing the country and humanity as a whole. The challenges include but are not limited to poverty, disease, unemployment, family and marital and incompatibility and general hopelessness all of which call for the services of professional counselors. Counselors are increasingly needed by both government and non-government organizations, the private sector, and by individuals. Hospitals, prisons, schools and institutions and all corporate organizations also require the counseling services.

 3. Objective of the programme: the main objective of the guidance and counseling course is to ensure students/learners

1. Appreciate the different services in guidance and counseling  
2. Understand the purpose, nature and uses of guidance and counseling 
3. Know how to apply guidance and counseling principles to real-world and real-life situations and problems and offer possible solutions 
4. Are aware of the need and importance of guidance and counseling in communities and institutions both private and public 
5. Obtain basic guidance and counseling skills  

4. REGULATIONS

4.1.Program Duration: The duration of the program is two academic years. Each academic year is made up of two semesters and one recess term. The duration of a semester is seventeen weeks and the duration of a recess term is ten weeks. The last two weeks of a semester are reserved for examinations.

 4.2.Admission Requirement: To be admitted for a diploma in Information and Communications Technology, the candidate must:

 EITHER  (i) Have sat Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and obtained at least three passes in one sitting (ii) Have sat Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and obtained at least one principle pass or two subsidiary passes in one sitting

 OR

 (i) Have sat Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and obtained at least two subsidiary passes in one sitting

 (ii) Have passed the first level of a professional course in computing from an internationally recognized professional body

 OR

 (i) Have sat Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and obtained at least two subsidiary passes in one sitting

(ii) Have a Certificate recognized by the National Council for Higher Education
