Course Content

Programme Description

The competitiveness of businesses is vital to the growth and sustainability of any economy. Businesses do not grow by chance. They grow by a sustained act of well-organized players. These players can be in different units of the department and are at different levels (from researchers to technicians). This course, therefore, seeks to train high quality lower level cadres in the business environments so as to create a critical mass for sustainability and development of Uganda businesses.

Program Objectives 

The objectives of the program are:

i) To introduce the students to business administration principles.

ii) To equip students with relevant knowledge and skills in business operation and management.

iii) To provide students with knowledge and skills in book-keeping and financial reporting.

iv) To enable students carry out research and to write project proposals.

v) To enable the learners generate business ideas that will enable them exploit the available resources for self-reliance.

vi) To introduce learners to the concepts of business law, communication, management and computer literacy

Programme Regulations

(a) Admission Requirements

i. Direct Entry Direct entry through A’level must have at least one principal pass and two  subsidiary passes in any subjects at advanced level of education and at least three credits at ordinary level in one sitting.

ii. Certificate Holder A Certificate from a recognized institution of higher learning (second class lower)

(b) Credit Transfer Gi-IT transfers credits from prior qualifications in recognized tertiary institutions so long as the courses eligible for transfer are similar to those in the Gi-IT program.

i. Gi-IT Credits: For courses undertaken at Gi-IT, the transfers can be made so long as the candidate passed the courses.

 ii. Other Recognized Institutions For courses undertaken from other recognized institutions, transfers are only made for courses where the candidate scored at least 60% and no more that 60% of the credits can be transferred.
